CROWNBRIDGE RAISE OVER £400 FOR CANCER RESEARCH

BY WALKING PEN-Y-FAN

‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ is a song immortalised by the Sound of Music and sung by Mother Abbess to encourage people to take every step towards attaining their dreams. In theory great, but when the alarm goes off at 2:30am on a cold dark Saturday morning in South Wales would the Von Trapps been so chipper, we think not.

Yet the sound of the cockerel was not the only thing waking up neighbours that morning as eight keen Crownbridge School staff motivated themselves with ancient shaman chanting before venturing out into the bleak night.

The quest was simple, to climb Pen-Y-Fan Mountain in the Brecon Beacons before dawn to watch the sunrise over our beautiful Welsh country. The goal for each was individual, for some it was to physically reach the top, for others it was to mentally conquer their fears and doubts, for some it was a social event and a time to laugh and talk. This being said one objective underpinned everyone's effort and that was to help raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity closely linked to some staff within our school.

The walk was a massive success, we all reached the top and watched as the sun rose up and lit up the fields and hills in all its glory, only out-shone by the accomplishment of everyone conquering their objectives and becoming a collective team, as well as raising over £400 for cancer research.

And yes, Mother Abbess was right, climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, ‘til you find your dream!

Well done everyone involved, you are making a difference.
